It can be\neasy to forget to keep up your regular habits when you\u2019re away from your normal\ndaily grind, but even away from home you need to be constantly vigilant about\ntooth decay and gum disease. Here are 6 tips for maintaining an excellent\ndental routine during the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Always Have Plenty of Supplies on Hand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You should always have a well-stocked dental kit when you\u2019re\non the go. Buy plenty of travel-sized toothpastes, mouthwashes and dental floss,\nand always have an extra toothbrush on hand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Take Care of Your toothbrush<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While a travel case for your toothbrush might seem like it\nmakes sense, keeping the bristles in a dark, enclosed, moist environment could\nbe encouraging bacterial growth \u2013 especially if you put the brush away while it\nwas still wet. Skip the case and always take your brush out when you reach your\ndestination; let it dry in the open air by standing it in a cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Watch What You\u2019re Drinking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sugary drinks like soda might be refreshing during those hot\nsummer days, but they also encourage the development of tooth decay. Water is\nall-around the healthier alternative; not only is it better at keeping you\nhydrated, but it can also help wash away harmful bacteria and acids. If you do\nend up indulging in some not-so-tooth-friendly beverages, use a straw so that less\nof the liquid touches the teeth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Keep Brushing and Flossing Twice a Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter how much you sleep in or how late you return to\nyour hotel room, you should always be brushing and flossing at least two times\na day \u2013 ideally once in the morning and once in the evening. If you have the\nopportunity, you might brush after lunch as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Be Careful with Ice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Putting a block of ice in your mouth can help you cool down,\nbut be careful not to chew; hard substances can potentially damage the teeth.\nYou don\u2019t want a dental emergency to interrupt your vacation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Have a Checkup Before You Leave<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Good oral care is all about prevention; ideally, tooth decay\nand gum disease should be identified and treated in their absolute earliest\nstages. To that end, it\u2019s a good idea to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cocoabeachdentist.com\/preventive-dentistry.html\">visit your\ndentist<\/a> right before you leave on vacation. This way, you can make sure any\npotential problems are addressed before leaving town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An appointment is also a good opportunity to ask your\ndentist about any other summer care tips they might have.
